The Observer's messages and values

Prep: bullet points that shows your grasp of The Observer's messages and values as shown in the online edition.

- Firstly, the Observer has an 'international feel' to the paper as it is culturally and ethnically educated and inclusive. As for other newspapers like MOJO- which shows a stereotypical white, mid-age male, this paper also presents powerful female figures.

- The pieces have hard, important, truthful, head-on news that is worth-while to readers

- It also has a variety of stories which can interest people of all ages who aren't yet mature enough to read hard news which shows age inclusivity and also gains them a wider readership.

- The papers header is identical in colour and placement to The Guardian which shows that the same admirable beliefs apply to them as well.

- The paper also keeps up to date with covid19 news which is very topical- again showing that the paper always has the most relative news- and shows a variety of angles as not to seem too one sided.

- The paper is not afraid to take on heavy topics, but provides a more balanced, if not slightly left-wing, meaning it concerns itself with more empathetic socially liberal issues.

-It also provides an online version of the paper so people are able to interact with others to express their views and opinions which may widen the audience as people can access it more easier. It also allows people who want the more traditional actual paper to buy that too.

- For the online version, it also allows the editors to edit thought-out the day if there is something they have missed or something that has come up which shows that they always want to be informing its readers and giving them all the top stories. This makes the reader feel like they are a priority.

- In conclusion, I think that the Observer's beliefs and values reflect on the paper because it keeps the readers and the information their putting out a priority as well as appealing to diversity.

  1. Excellent level of detail. You are very much on the right lines here and have applied well what you revised in the lesson. You are right to observe that The Observer leans towards being socially liberal and provides a balanced view, tackles tough topics. Be sure to emphasise
    1. Hard news is priority as The Observer is a serious newspaper with readers interested in politics, economics
    2. It values culture also, offering readers a wide range to reflect diverse interests
